Education and research are vital to foster innovation in the business sphere and across society. One of the most important tasks for policymakers is thus to create an enabling environment and ensure sufficient resources for education, science and research. The 38 members of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment deliberate on long-term strategic choices in research and education policy – concerning the promotion of Germany as a research location, for example, or higher education and vocational training, but also forms of individual support such as Federal Training Assistance (BAföG). One unique body plays a role in the committee’s work: the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag. This office is run by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. It advises the Bundestag on issues of research and technology policy and provides analysis and scientific reports.
