The Bundestag’s Committee on Food and Agriculture, with its 35 members chaired by Hermann Färber (CDU/CSU), has a broad remit within the fields of food and agriculture. This also extends to consumer health protection, which while not part of the Committee’s name still falls significantly within its area of expertise. Healthy eating, high-quality food products, consumers health protection, good conditions for farming and forestry, hunting and fishing, environmental protection and climate action, animal welfare and strengthening rural areas are just some of the varied topics the Committee deals with. The agriculture and food sector is of core significance to Germany as an economic and employment location.
