The promotion and funding of effective, sustainable parameters for elite sport – including sport for people with disabilities – is at the heart of the work on sports policy done by the Committee. Its concerns also include the desire to put in place effective arrangements to combat doping and manipulation in sport. However, the 19 members of the Sports Committee additionally deal with sport’s social significance for other areas of life such as education, health, integration and the economy. The Committee cultivates contacts with sport associations, receives briefings from a large number of different organisations and regularly draws on the advice of external expert witnesses, all of which help it to give impetus to sport policy and initiate legislative projects.
