Health policy is centred around patients. The quality of the medical provision and long-term care they receive is the measure of how the healthcare system is organised. Everyone hopes for a long and healthy life, and that is why everyone wants to - and should be able to - benefit from rapid medical progress and the technical possibilities that digitalisation offers. At the same time, it is necessary to balance revenues and expenditure across the statutory health insurance system, to ensure that healthcare remains affordable. In this area of competing demands, the 42 members of the Committee on Health discuss all aspects of health policy, from how to handle the Corona pandemic, to dignified, high-quality care and nationwide provision of medical services, and prepare decisions on how to ensure the healthcare system is fit for the challenges of the future.
