The term “labour and social affairs” encompasses policy areas of relevance for everybody in society, such as pensions, labour-market policy, support for the unemployed and inclusion of people with disabilities. Welfare systems, from unemployment benefit to pensions, have to be further developed and made fit for the future. The world of work is undergoing constant change and is shaped by trade unions, employers and policymakers. It is essential that everybody in society is able to participate. The work of this committee is of great importance for all generations. With fifty members, it is the largest committee in the 20th electoral term.
